At the end of the day, no matter who you are or what you do, your life revolves around other people whether business or social (which themselves seem to be becoming more blended as time passes). In order to realize the full orbital network value of that fact a fundamental shift of perspective needs to occur. I especially appreciate it when someone not only identifies it as such but also provides even greater elegance to a fresh perspective when they articulate it in such a manner that it immediately becomes indelible in my mind.
Why?
Because in reality it has been there all along in front of us all, but creating a “positioning” statement of it has never been easy.
We should no longer look at the world as Business-2-Business nor as Business-2-Consumer, but rather People-2-People. If you are like me, when something so evident, so common-sensical, so, well, truthful to the realities surrounding us, you can’t help but go “duh!”.
Why P2P is so Essential, and Profound
Whether you are a small and local merchant providing dry cleaning services for instance or a major market presence both locally and nationally, the glue that holds relationships together is most importantly between two people. To some of you this will conjure up the image of sales people and the necessity of them doing the heavy lifting but you couldn’t be more incorrect in that view. It does, and always will, include you as well. Who isn’t relationship-centric in today’s world of hyper-connectedness, and who can afford to be immune from caring about the need to both protect as well as continue to develop the network of relationships that each of us has? The rise of and impact on each of us in today’s social media world doesn’t exonerate the necessity of constantly striving to develop, maintain, and secure more and more personal relationships. One to many is only the beginning, not the end.
Start dismissing, or discounting, the importance of the quality and effectiveness of your relationships between yourself both as an individual as well as a member of any organization to that of anyone else and all the money, time, and energy that goes into building and maintaining a reputation, brand, or image can be ultimately destroyed. As they say, we do not really know the value of water until the well is dry.
