As we start the New Year, I wanted to reflect on what has truly been a transformative 2016 for us at Keystroke.ca.
These past twelve months have seen our team grow from ten to twenty-seven, and from one office to three. We introduced a number of new products to the market, namely the Knowtifier and our Act4 family of products - including the wildly popular Act4outlook.
In the summer of 2016, we expanded our product and service offerings into the French-Canadian market, and in doing so, welcomed a warm and proud culture we had never previously been exposed to. My many trips to the restaurants in Montreal have taught me a lot about the hospitality of the French people, and I thoroughly enjoy my monthly trips to our office there.
Later in the year we welcomed the team from Handheld Contact into the Keystroke fold, and with it, a new international reach. Suddenly we were managing a team of developers, driving hectic product sprints, and engaging distributors around the world in numerous languages.
Personally, I started last year teaching “letters” to my two children, and finished it with them reading to me each night – accomplishments that easily surpassed anything I did in business.
However, as we close out the holiday season, it occurred to me the single biggest theme for 2016 was not so much growth, but “change”. Change in the people we employed, the markets we reached, and the products we sold. Changes in our horizons shaped our vision of the roadmap ahead, and fueled our growth.
The most significant component of change for us in 2016 was not any product or acquisition in particular, but rather our commitment to it. While this may sound laudable, on many occasions change meant humility, as we left traditional areas of comfort & expertise to tackle seemingly insurmountable learning curves. Yes, some mistakes were made, lessons learned, and corrections made, but at no point was our resolve diminished.
So as we welcome the new year, we invite you take some time to reflect on what change meant for you in 2016, and what it will mean for you in the year ahead?
