When we set out to raise 10,000 meals this month, it seemed ambitious. The goal was inspired by the record number of people turning to local food banks as inflation, high-interest rates, skyrocketing rents, and the cost of fuel forced many families to make some tough choices over the holidays. Many for the first time, and many more with children.
Our plan was to contribute 5% of our December new sales towards Second Harvest, Canada's largest food salvage organization, who could efficiently feed those suffering food insecurity for as little as 36 cents a meal. That is astonishing work, and we wanted to help. We staked the campaign to an initial $1000 donation to start, and then we let our sales and marketing team do the rest.
And the great news is you all responded.
As each week progressed our new sales drove the donations until we reached our target just before the end of the month, and we couldn't be more grateful to those that supported us. It's been a long year with many investments in new products, and we're gratified our customers are leveraging them to grow their business, and now to feed those in need.
To make this campaign even more successful, all our donations were matched by the Nikita Foundation which doubled the impact of our efforts. In other words, thanks to their generosity we raised over 20,000 meals this month collectively. Amazing! Read the official Second Harvest Letter [HERE].
Thanks to all those who help us reach this goal. You've made this month one to remember.
Happy Holidays!
