When we released the original Act4outlook five years ago, we had no idea it would become the highest selling Act! add-on of all time. Along the way we had to contend with SDK (Software Development Kit) limits in trying to support 32 and 64-bit versions of Office, and then Act! V22 came out, and we were able to leverage changes in that version to support both.
The first version of Act4outlook to support both Office bitnesses was v4, but it's compatibility was limited to Act! V22 and required separate installers for 32 and 64-bit versions of Office. On account of these compatibility limits, we had to keep Act4outlook v3 available for legacy Act! users on 32-bit versions of Act!, and v4 available for Act! V22 users on both 32 and 64-bit versions of Outlook. Needless to say, this was very confusing to customers.
Well, we're please to announce that we've just released Act4outlook v5 that changes all that. This new version includes only one installer for both 32 & 64-bit versions of Office, and is now compatible with all desktop versions of Act! back to version v17. We also added a new feature at the request of our customers that allows you to send emails without attaching to History in Act!.
It also means that the v3 and v4 versions of Act4outlook are no longer needed, and have been removed from our Actcessory Market and the Act! Marketplace.
The best part of this announcement is what it means for updates to other addons. Now that we've "cracked the bitness code", we can apply these updates to other add-ones. More on that to come in the near future.
